Audi made its reputation in large powerful sedans, so where does this legacy stand today?
In recent years we have seen 3 distinct takes on Audi’s bloodlines.
1. 2015 Audi Rs7, ZF-8speed automatic gets it to 60 in 3.4 seconds
– twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, out of which Audi squeezes a healthy 560 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque
-comparable straight line performance to range topping R8 V10+
2. 2010 Audi Rs6
-even firing 5.0L V10 biturbo, 571 bhp and 479 lbf·ft of torque
– 60 mph takes up to 4.3 seconds with the ZF-6 speed tiptronic automatic
-comparable performance to Audi R8 V8 model (from a wagon no less)
3. 2008 Audi S8
-5.2L v10 with 450 hp and 400 lb.ft, it produces that whimsical v10 wail, while still possessing the extreme comfort of the A8 class.
-same 5.2L v10 later found in the Audi R8 V10
When it comes to modern Audis, all three possess the blunderbuss power and comfort that a true autobahn cruiser is meant to have.
The limousine profile of the S8, the Sportback RS7, and the RS6 Avant are all recent takes on what it is to be an Audi luxury sedan.
What do you think? Which does the traditional”Audi” best? Do you think the new “Audi” personality is personified in the R8? Will two seater sportscars be the new defining model of the Audi range?
